Style and technique of artist Marie-Paule Deville-Chabrolle

Marie-Paule Deville-Chabrolle's work is a celebration of feminine grace and sensuality, featuring figures imbued with gentleness and inner strength.

Her work is influenced by Asia, studying in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Asian statuary has profoundly influenced her aesthetic, integrating elements of Khmer sculpture and a quest for silence and balance.

She has traveled extensively, each country nourishing her creations, and this has helped to give her work an introspective and universal dimension.

She mainly sculpts softly curving female figures, often in bronze, capturing moments of contemplation and serenity.

The artist has also collaborated with Daum, since 2005. She has transposed some of her works into crystal, exploring transparency and light, and thus giving a new dimension to her sculptures.

Parallel to sculpture to sculpture, she creates sanguine drawings, thus extending her exploration of the female body with delicacy.

Her works are characterized by a refined simplicity, where every detail is carefully thought out to express the essence of femininity. The figures she creates exude an aura of meditation and quiet strength, inviting the viewer into silent contemplation.

The life of Marie-Paule Deville-Chabrolle

Marie-Paule Deville-Chabrolle was born in 1952 in Meknes, Morocco. She entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Pau in 1971, and continued her training for two years at the Faculté des Arts Plastiques in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where her father worked for the UN.

Since 1992, she has lived and worked in Bazarnes, Burgundy, in a house with the blonde stones that inspire her. Her sculptures and drawings are regularly exhibited in France and abroad, with several solo shows each year.
She is honored by the International Academy " Greci Marino " in Italy.

Many of her works have become emblematic, such as the Marianne of the year 2000. That year, she was chosen to create the official bust of Marianne, embodied by Laetitia Casta. The mold is kept at the Louvre's molding workshop.
The works resulting from her collaboration with Daum are also highly prized (the artist has been working with Daum crystal since 2005, transposing some of her works into crystal sculptures).

Her sculptures are now listed on the auction market, alongside artists such as Isabelle Waldberg, Josiane Cantin and Anne-Marie Profillet.

Focus on La Suggestion, Marie-Paule Deville-Chabrolle

In Deville-Chabrolle's La Suggestion, the artist chooses to depict a reclining female figure, leaning on her elbows, head thrown back, and palm open. The work is at once introspective, sensual and theatrical.

The body is relaxed yet expressive: the posture is not one of rest but of inner projection, the woman seems to be addressing a silence or absence. The movement seems suspended, the upward gesture of the open hand evokes an invocation, an offering or a silent whisper, reinforcing the title of the work.

By choosing this evocative title, La Suggestion, the artist invites us to feel and proposes an emotion without imposing it, without showing anything frontal or narrative.

There is a mixture of strength and fragility, the neck is tense, the muscles are visible, and contrast with the finesse of the fingers and the softness of the lines, it's a balance typical of the artist's work.

The figure is timeless : without precise cultural attributes, the sculpture takes on a universal, meditative dimension.

For this work, she works with a dark-brown patinated bronze, the material is warm, dense and gently captures the light, each curve becoming a surface for reflection, from passage to visual.

The bronze finish is smooth and continuous, the modeling is fluid, unbroken, and the form follows the breath of the gesture. She demonstrates a real sense of anatomical detail, producing subtle work on the hands, the nape of the neck, the folds of the back, without ever falling into excessive naturalism.

This sculpture is far from being a simple decorative nude, but translates an internalized emotion, a silent presence. We also find here the Khmer influence dear to the artist : in the calm, the concentration and the gesture that speaks.

This sculpture dialogues between space and suggestion, the work doesn't give itself away entirely but leaves room for the viewer, in a spirit of sensitive resonance.
