The life of Hubert Robert 

Born in Paris in 1733, Hubert Robert developed an early interest in art and received a solid training as a pupil of Nicolas-Bernard Lépicié. This training enabled him to enter the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, where he was influenced by landscape masters such as Claude Joseph Vernet.

Throughout his career, Hubert Robert became famous for his bold and imaginative compositions, blending elements of natural landscapes with ruined architecture. He was renowned for his talent in depicting picturesque scenes, waterfalls and lush gardens, as well as ancient remains and dilapidated buildings.

Inspired by Roman ruins, his travels to Italy were of great importance to him and greatly influenced his art. Imprisoned during the French Revolution, Hubert Robert managed to pursue his artistic career after his release.

He was also a prominent member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. His works were exhibited at the Paris Salon on several occasions.
