Artist's style and technique
Albert Binquet produced three-dimensional sculptures, bas-reliefs and sculpted mirrors, often in bronze, during his career. The latter are part of the Art Deco movement.
Albert Binquet, prized Art Deco sculptor
Albert Binquet is a sculptor who produces works close to the Art Deco movement. He was also a decorator. Born in 1879, very few details of his personal life and artistic approach are known today. He did, however, teach at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, while exhibiting his work at the Salon d'Automne from 1923 to 1931.
He created sculptures with various foundries such as the one in Hohwiller, although his three-dimensional sculptures have never yet come up for sale on the auction market. On the other hand, he has produced several bas-reliefs for which it is already easy to gauge the appeal to collectors.
Like Line Vautrin, his name is particularly famous as regards the creation of mirrors, often sculpted in bronze, in a rather elongated form, the particularity being that the bottom of his mirrors represents a mask. The rendering establishes a certain stylistic link with primitive art.
The sculptor's imprint on his period
Albert Binquet is one of those artists who do not mark their era. Unknown to the general public, his works are nevertheless highly valued on the auction market today.
