The artist's works and style
Bernar Venet is a polymorphic painter who works with a variety of materials. He produces many prints, but also drawings, oils on canvas and sculptures, which are his most highly regarded works. He is part of the Conceptual Art movement.
The life of Bernar Venet
Bernar Venet was born in the Alps in 1941.
He began painting in the 1950s, and also produced sculptures. His work is oriented towards abstraction and conceptual art.
In 1966, he moved to New York, where he discovered Minimalism and American conceptual art.
Interested in algebraic and mathematical concepts, he drew inspiration from them in his paintings and drawings - notably by depicting angles.
His best-known achievements in the USA and Europe remain monumental sculptures, often in corten steel - a material that rusts naturally.
He occupies an important place in the contemporary art world, and has received several distinctions for his work.
Bernar Venet's imprint on his era
Bernar Venet leaves a colossal imprint on the history of contemporary art, as he contributes much to American conceptual art. His artistic approach of working with science is quite unconventional and establishes an obvious porosity between these two fields.
His works are highly valued at auction, and have a certain upside potential.
