The designer's style and technique

Paul Dupré-Lafon was part of the Art Deco movement, which reached its peak at the beginning of the 20th century. His work enjoyed rapid and dazzling success, which was due to the elegance in his furniture design as well as his sense of aestheticism.

Paul Dupré-Lafon, decorator to millionaires

Paul Dupré-Lafon was born in Marseille in 1900. He came from a family of artisans and was educated at a Jesuit school, then began his artistic training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille. He moved to Paris in 1923 to develop architecture and design projects.

His success was almost immediate, and he soon received prestigious commissions, including Hermès. A decorator as well as an architect, he directed construction projects for private mansions, the first of which he completed on Rue Rembrandt. His style is remarkably elegant, using fairly curved lines, wood and lots of leather in the making of his furniture.

He held multiple positions, and worked in several fields at once, whether architecture, design or interior decoration. His work was very popular and prized by the biggest stars of the 20th century, the famous pianist and singer Elton John being one of his many clients. This is why he is sometimes nicknamed " decorator to millionaires ".

All these personalities, as well as the attraction of haute couture houses for his furniture, contributed to making him popular and prized by the general public.

The artist never wanted to exhibit his work, the notoriety his sponsors offered him being more than enough.

Dupré-Lafon died in 1971 in Deauville, leaving behind a significant reputation and legacy.
