A free lecture to travel back in time

Hosted by our auctioneer, the lecture on Tableware in the 18th century promises to be fascinating. The 18th century was a period of great artistic effervescence in Europe. Tableware was not immune to this wave of creativity, and saw unprecedented developments. Tableware was often a work of art in itself, with exquisite patterns, elaborate carvings and luxurious materials.

This lecture will be an opportunity for participants to discover how tableware was used as tools of prestige and social distinction. Eighteenth-century aristocrats sought to impress their guests with exceptional dinner services, featuring dozens of silver, vermeil or porcelain pieces. Glasses and decanters were also key elements of the table, designed to reflect the wealth and sophistication of the hosts.

Beyond their primary function, then, the arts de la table were a true expression of 18th-century French art de vivre and culture.

The conference is free, open to all, with prior registration.
