Rating and value of the artist Edmond Yarz

Edmond Yarz leaves behind a rather singular body of work, in the impressionist vein. Today, prices for his works are rising under the auctioneer's hammer. His paintings are particularly prized, especially by English and French buyers. The price at which they sell on the art market ranges from €180 to €9,000, a substantial gap but one that says a lot about the value that can be attributed to Yarz's works. In 2023, his oil on canvas Les voiles blanches dans le port  sold for €2,000, while it was estimated at €1,000 to €1,500.

Style and technique of Edmond Yarz

Edmond Yarz was a painter of the second half of the 19th century, to whom no real movement is attached. He specialized in landscape painting and produced mainly oils on canvas. There are also a few drawings. If we were to assign him a current, it would be either realism or impressionism, depending on the work.

The life of Edmond Yarz

Edmond Yarz (1845 - 1920), was a 19th-century painter relatively unknown to the general public. He was born in Toulouse, into a relatively well-off family.

He learned painting and drawing techniques at the Beaux-Arts school in Toulouse. It was there that he decided to produce landscape drawings and paintings.

He moved to Paris, where the art world was more prolific for him than in Toulouse, and settled in a studio on rue Montmartre with painter Benjamin-Constant.

He exhibited canvases almost every year at the Salon, his work notably noticed by Appolinaire, who described one of his paintings as " trompe l'oeil impressionism ".

He drew inspiration for his work not only from the landscapes of Ile de France, like the Barbizon painters, but also from his hometown.

Edmond Yarz's imprint on his era

Edmond Yarz did not leave much of an imprint on his era. He was noticed by a few critics when he exhibited. Today, his work is less famous, but he is still highly regarded on the art market.

His quotation is currently stable on the auction market.
