Allegrain Christophe Gabriel bronze (détail)

The artist's style and technique

Allegrain sculpts his works with great delicacy and dexterity despite the poor quality of the marble he is sometimes supplied with. He was slightly inspired by some Mannerist statues, notably the bronzes of Jean de Bologne, appropriating the sinuous line of the silhouettes, the serpentine face, the relatively small breasts and the elaborate hairstyle.Despite the often mythological subjects, the representation of the body is very naturalistic, with no unjustified concealment of the folds on the belly or hips.

A recent graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain settled in the Marais district at the beginning of the 18th century.
