Jean Marie Auguste Leroux (1871-1954) was a renowned French painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Paris on June 30, 1871, Leroux showed an early talent for art and was encouraged by his family to pursue his passion. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he developed his technical skills and was influenced by the movements of his time, notably Impressionism. Léon Bonnat was his master. 

Leroux is best known for his luminous, atmospheric landscapes, characterized by skillful use of color and light. His works often capture the beauty of the French countryside, particularly the Normandy region, where he spent many years painting en plein air. He also produced many portraits that can be likened to genre scenes.
