Artist's style and technique

Lin Fengmian is an avant-garde Chinese painter, who has produced drawings, prints, paintings mixing ancient Chinese techniques and modern painting. He uses traditional Chinese themes and depicts scenes from everyday life. His paintings make up the bulk of his work and are his most prized works on the auction market. 

The career of Lin Fengmian

Lin Fengmian (1900 - 1991), is a Chinese avant-garde artist.

He was born during the Quing Dynasty, into a family of craftsmen. His father knew traditional Chinese painting, as well as calligraphy. He was partly trained as a painter in France, between Dijon and Paris. He returned to China in 1925, where he was directly promoted to academic positions, including president of the National Academy of Art in Beijing.

. He painted mainly in Hanghzou, where he trained Chu Teh Chun, among others, and directed the city's Academy of Arts, giving it a more modern impetus.

At the same time, he taught painting until 1952. He moved to Hong Kong in 1977.

In his work, he aimed to achieve a synthesis between traditional Chinese art and contemporary Western art. 

Lin Fengmian's imprint on his period

Today, Fegmian is recognized as one of the most influential Chinese artists of the 20th century. His Chinese paintings (tableaux) are highly prized by collectors and are a great success at auction. His unique style, which blends Western influences with Chinese pictorial techniques, is particularly appreciated and sought-after today. Some of his works are exhibited in museums in France, but private collectors play a major role in preserving his work. His value has been rising in recent years.
