Max Léon Moreau (1902 - 1992), was a Belgian Orientalist painter of the 20th century.
The son of a painter, he visited many museums from childhood and was already producing copies of great masters such as Velasquez. His family moved to Paris around 1920, where he frequented the French Comédie and painted portraits inspired by the roles in the plays being performed there at the time.
He married in 1929 and traveled constantly from then on: North Africa was one of his favorite places. First Tunisia, then Morocco after a stopover in Nice. Wherever he travelled, he frequented the theaters that were his main source of inspiration. Settled in Marrakech, he often travels to France to exhibit and promote his paintings.
At the end of his career, he sells paintings in New York, but above all in Palm Beach, where he builds up a network of loyal and wealthy customers.
