The artist's works and style

Chafik Abboud follows in the footsteps of André Lhote and Fernand Léger, adopting a non-figurative, abstract style, using fairly bright, luminous colors. His preferred media are oil on canvas and drawing - ink, mixed media, acrylic, gouache ...

Chafik Abboud's career

Chafik Abboud (1926 - 2004) is a French-Lebanese figurative artist.

He first studied at an engineering school. Drawn to painting, he left his engineering studies to study at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts.

He moved to Paris in 1947, studying in the studios of André Lhote and Fernand Léger. In 1959, he exhibited his work for the first time at the Paris Biennale.

The painter became a member of the committee of the Salon des réalités nouvelles, and divided his time between France, Lebanon, and other places where it was possible for him to exhibit in Europe and around the world.

An important member of the Nouvelle École de Paris, the artist died in 2004.

Chakif Abboud's imprint on his period

Chafik Abboud is not a well-known artist to the general public, but his value is relatively high at auction. However, bidders' attraction to non-figurative painting and the artists of the Nouvelle École de Paris suggests a certain upside potential in terms of the prices his paintings and drawings could fetch at auction. Some of his works are exhibited in museums, notably the Institut du Monde Arabe in France, but private collectors play the greatest role in the conservation of his works.
