The artist's works and style

Influenced by Cézanne's research into cubism, Giorgio Morandi's style focuses on gesture and movement, emphasizing spontaneity and raw expression.

Color plays an essential role in Giorgio Morandi's style, but movement retains a central place given his involvement in the Futurist movement.

Over the course of his career, Giorgio Morandi explored several abstract styles, ranging from more gestural, expressive compositions to more structured, geometric works.

Giorgio Morandi, Italian Futurist

Giorgio Morandi was born in Bologna in 1890. He began drawing as a child and in 1907 enrolled at the Bologna School of Fine Arts, despite his family's opposition. However, he considers himself to be largely self-taught, studying the work of other painters and art history in general. In Florence, he discovered the works of the Trecento painters, who also exerted a considerable influence on his work.

Later, he became interested in the work of Cézanne, who set the first milestones of Cubism. However, he would find his artistic identity in the theories and practical application of Futurism - with Bocionni and Russolo in particular. He produced Futurist works that he exhibited at various Salons in Italy. For many years, he taught drawing in elementary school.

In 1919, Morandi signed a contract with Mario Broglio, an art dealer. at the same time, he became interested in metaphysical painting.

He received various awards at the Venice and Sao Paulo Biennales.
