Paul Wayland Barlett (1865-1925), American sculptor, became an important figure of neoclassical sculpture in the 19th century.
He was born in New-Heaven, USA. His vocation as a sculptor became apparent at an early age, and he began training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1880.
At the 1900 Exposition Universelle, he represented the United States on the awards jury, having set up his own studio in 1884 - where he had his own foundry installed.
In 1901, he won the Grand Prix at the Saint Louis Exposition, which enabled him to become, ten years later, a foreign correspondent of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in the sculpture section.
He is a member of several art-related academies in the United States, and in 1923 is elected foreign associate of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
His work focuses mainly on animal and military subjects.
