Louis Buisseret, forgotten figure of the 20th century   

Louis Buisseret (1888-1956), a Belgian artist, has become a forgotten figure by the general public.  

He began his studies at the Mons School of Fine Arts, where he had Louis Greuze as well as Émile Motte as teachers. He then continues his training at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. He is awarded the Prix de Rome Belge, which grants him a scholarship. He also won first prize for engraving. With other painters, he founds the Nervia group, which refers to Latin antiquity and promotes Walloon art in opposition to Flemish expressionism. Several artists, including Geo Verbank, were close to this group.

Louis Buisseret was not a very famous painter in his lifetime, and still isn't today. However, his value is on the rise and he is a popular artist on the auction market, as his works take up the academic canons, and the Nervia group is known to Belgian and French collectors.
