Édouard Marcel Sandoz, his life, his work

Édouard Marcel Sandoz (1881-1971), a Swiss artist, became a key figure in the 20th-century art world. He moved to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts, where his teachers included Antonin Mercié and Jean-Antoine Injalbert. He enjoys sculpting animals, and his works often feature rabbits, fennecs and birds. He creates many table services, including suites of salt and pepper shakers, carafes and teapots. For these objects, he works with Limoges and Sèvres porcelain.

Bronze is one of the preferred materials he uses in his work, enabling him to create larger works than porcelain, and to work on details in a different way. His subjects are always animals, and he applies a variety of bronze techniques to them: enamelled bronze for fish, patinated bronze for wild animals, gilded bronze for smaller subjects such as birds.

Edouard Marcel Sandoz's imprint on his period

Edouard Marcel Sandoz is an artist well known to lovers of sculpture and painting, and the author of an absolutely considerable artistic output. Today, most of his works are held by private collectors, increasing the value and success of his works on the auction market.
