Pierre Paulin's life
Pierre Paulin was born in Paris in 1927 into a family of artists. The young Paulin begins his career as a pupil of Maxime Old. A few years later, he joined Marcel Gascoin's design studio. Both artists were pioneers of French design.
The year 1953 marked a major turning point in his career. The young designer presented his creations for the first time at the Salon des Arts ménagers. His success was instantaneous. The following year, he was recruited by Thonet France to design furniture.
In 1958, Artifort called on him and a team of designers to create seats. Paulin worked there for 10 years, creating some of his most famous works, including the Champignon chair.
In 1975, Pierre Paulin co-founded l'ADSA, his own design agency. Throughout his career, the designer would go on to win awards, including the prestigious Prix de la Création Industrielle in 1987.
Thanks to his growing renown, Pierre Paulin was called upon by numerous institutions to redesign their interior spaces. This is notably the case for the Musée du Louvre, which calls on him to refurbish the Denon wing. He also designed seating for the Grande Galerie, which is still in use today.
