Rating and value of works, paintings and prints by Max Papart

Max Papart

Considered a contemporary master of printmaking, Max Papart (1911-1994) left behind a large body of slightly ironic post-Cubist art. His works, on the border between collage and painting, are mixtures of style, materials, shapes and colors.

The artist's works and style

Max Papart's works are characterized by a peaceful atmosphere, a slight irony and a deep appreciation of visual beauty. His works blend elements of painterly composition, harmony and expressive dynamism.

Like a Braque painting, his unique compositions combine solid colors, paper collages and letter overlays, blending styles and materials. The result is a fragmented painting with strong lines, where the subject comes to life through the juxtaposition of different planes.

The life of Max Papart

Max Papart was born in Marseille in 1911. A Franco-American, Papart briefly attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille before training as a painter on his own.

In 1936, Papart moved to Paris and became an artisan-printer. He exhibited his first etchings at the Salon des Indépendants and held his first solo show in 1938.

Later, Max Papart evolved from a post-Cubist style to an artistic expression that incorporated abstract elements into his plastic thinking. As a lithographer, engraver and painter, he frequently uses mixed media and collage. His work is influenced by painters such as Atlan and Clavé, and his works are regularly exhibited in galleries and museums around the world.

Towards the end of his life, Max Papart created jewelry inspired by his own paintings.
