Lucien Goubert, huile sur toile

Lucien Goubert, forgotten painter of the 19th century

Lucien Goubert (1887-1964), was a French painter who produced landscape and marine paintings. He was born in the Cotentin region of France, and as a child dreamed of becoming a sailor.

However, an accident prevented him from realizing his dream. That's why he decided to paint. Self-taught and therefore without any artistic training, he couldn't make a living from his production and opened a photography and framing workshop.

At the same time, he managed to get a studio in Cherbourg where he could paint his marine pictures. He then exhibited in several towns in Normandy, as well as at the 1937 Paris World's Fair.

The artist was then successful ; his paintings were exhibited during his lifetime in Tunisia and the United States.

He stopped painting and producing in 1954, after the death of his wife.

Lucien Goubert died in 1964 in Normandy.

Lucien Goubert's imprint on his time

Lucien Goubert succeeded in creating a unique painting reflecting the energy of his time, and made unrestrained use of contrasts of form and color, the keystone of his artistic style.

He was a fairly well-known marine painter during his lifetime, forgotten today but still arousing definite interest among collectors.
