Takaseda Matsutani (b. 1937), is a surrealist artist born in Osaka, Japan.
He began his artistic training in 1954, at the Osaka School of Arts and Crafts. Ill, he was unable to complete his studies and taught himself Japanese painting. He took a keen interest in Western avant-garde painting and Surrealist rubbings.
He exhibited for the first time in 1957, and Shosaku Arao invited him to become his teacher. After meeting Montonaga, he joined the avant-garde Gutai group.
In 1966, he was awarded the Institut franco-japonais de Tokyo prize, which enabled him to spend six months in France. He took the opportunity to travel to several European countries to study Western art in greater detail, and settled in Paris permanently at the end of the 60s, while continuing to exhibit regularly in Japan. Today, he still works in Paris, which explains the presence of his works on the French market.
