The artist's style and technique
A painter apart from his time, Berber mainly depicted religious scenes inspired by medieval history. He produced mostly paintings, occasionally also trying his hand at the portrait genre. His way of conceiving his compositions is highly complex, drawing much of his inspiration from the medieval history of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Mersad Berber, a little-known Bosnian painter
Mersad Berber (1940 - 2012) was born in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
He studied at, and graduated from, the Ljubjlana School of Fine Arts. Right from the start of his career, he developed a system of cycles in his creative method, drawn from the medieval history of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
He combines ancient iconography with more contemporary technical processes, achieving a result quite unique for its time.
He was appointed Professor of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo towards the middle of his career.
