The life of Charles Lacoste

Charles Lacoste (1870-1959) was a French Impressionist painter.

Born in south-western France, he befriended Gabriel Frizeau in high school, who collected paintings by Odilon Redon. This sparked his interest in painting. André Gide, Arthur Fontaine and Henri Duprac gave him advice.

He had a very melancholy nature, which influenced his work. He was a regular visitor to London and the Salon des Cent.

Subsequently, he was one of the founding members of the Salon d'Automne. At the same time, he exhibited in Moscow and Brussels.

He gradually moved away from Impressionism, preferring dream-like subjects.

He died in Paris at the age of 88.
