Louis de Monard (1873-1939), a French sculptor, became an important figure in 19th-century animal sculpture.

He was born in Antun, into a military family. He joined the army in Dijon, and began drawing at the same time. Moving to Paris, he met many artists in Montmartre and collaborated with the Courrier Illustré during the Belle Époque.

He gradually turned to sculpture after exhibiting works at the Salon des Artistes Français, and produced his first series of bronze dogs to honor a commission from the French State.

He produces some monumental works that are installed in various public places across the country.

Some of Louis de Monard's works are visible and scattered in various cities in Europe, but relatively few: the bulk of his production is in private collections. He leaves a legacy in the history of art and sculpture of the 19th century.
