Rating and value of the artist Boris Bessonov

Bessonov is a Russian-born painter who is relatively unknown to the general public. He leaves behind a unique artistic repertoire characteristic of Russian realism. This legacy consists of paintings that are predominantly oils on canvas. Today, prices for his works are skyrocketing under auctioneers' hammers. His paintings and other works are particularly prized, especially by European and American buyers, and the price at which they sell on the art market ranges from €475 to €28,170, a considerable delta but one that speaks volumes about the value that can be attributed to Bessonov's works. In 2010, a blue-dominated polychrome composition sold for €14,500.

Style and technique by artist Boris Bessonov

Bessonov is part of the Russian Realism movement, very much in vogue at auction today. He draws much of his inspiration from Western European landscapes, working extensively on light shades as well as the representation of light.

Boris Bessonov, a little-known but prized painter

Boris Bessonov (1862-1934), an artist of Russian origin, has become a figure prized by collectors, as has Krachkowsky. Little is known about his life in France and Russia. He was born in Moscow, but soon left his native country for Western Europe. He painted almost exclusively landscapes, without protagonists. Bessonov exclusively painted scenes set in the countryside, forest or mountains; he was not interested in depicting cities or buildings.

However, there is diversity in his canvases and landscape choices, which are notably due to the different seasons as well as the places he traveled to in Europe.

Bessonov's major work remains that of light, a technique he worked on by dint of painting, to obtain a rendering most in keeping with the scenes he observed, worthy of Russian realism.

Bessonov's imprint on his period

Bessonov did not mark his era, he is an artist unknown to the general public. Nevertheless, his technical mastery interests collectors and his works are sought after on the auction market.

Recognizing Bessonov's signature

Often, Boris Bessonov's paintings are signed at the bottom left of the painting. He signs " Bessonov " often in a dark tone.
