After Smith & Wesson's departure, Benjamin Henry developed the more powerful 44 cartridge. The first repeating rifle model is the 1866, which is also sought-after for the history it bears witness to, having been used by French soldiers during the Franco-Prussian War.

The 1873 model is created next, manufactured from 1873 until 1923, which is remembered as " the gun that won the West ". Other models followed, but the old ones were the most sought-after at auction.
