Alain Jacquet's career

Alain Jacquet is a French artist born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1939. His father is a prefect, as is one of his brothers. His other brother, Bertrand Jacquet, is a sculptor.

He began his artistic training at the École des Beaux-Arts, but studied architecture for two years before turning to painting. He is usually associated with the Nouvelle Figuration or Figuration narrative movement. He produced his first series of works, "Cylindres", in 1961, which stood out for their bright colors. He married Betty Durot during these years.

Then he produced a series called " Camouflages ", which went against the Parisian aesthetic of the time. His work is particularly successful in the United States and England. He moved to New York in 1964, where his work was more widely recognized and appreciated. Here he experimented with the silkscreen technique much used by Andy Warhol. He made extensive use of dots in his prints, drawings and paintings, which became one of his signatures.

Alain Jacquet died in New-York at the age of 69, in 2008.
