Artist's style and technique
André Cadere is an artist associated with the Op Art movement, or optical art, and also questions the materiality of the artwork as well as its function. He is close to notions such as land art, which aims to produce works of art with elements found in nature. He produces drawings, prints and paintings, as well as sculptures.
The life of André Cadere
Born in Warsaw, Poland, André Cadere (1934 - 1978) was a Romanian painter and sculptor.
Like many artists who grew up in Eastern Europe, he moved to Paris in 1967. There, he discovered Op Art, an artistic movement aimed at working with and conceptualizing the work of art by taking optical functioning into account. He produced tableaux-reliefs, with the bulk of his work focusing on sculpture and the production of volume.
His intellectual quest led him to conceptualize and produce a round wooden bar, where several pieces of colored wood are assembled to form a rod. They are sometimes titled Peinture sans fin, although some of his sculptures are untitled. He exhibited his work in Paris, but it was to be a real success in New York, where Cadere went around and exhibited his work in a mobile way, carrying the baguettes on his shoulder. He wants his work to " be ", with no sequel or future in time. He conceives his baguettes as a multiple reality forming a constellation.
The artist's imprint on his time
Through his works, André Cadere questions the function and role of the work of art, and above all its finality. He doesn't just produce ; but conceptualizes. This is one of the reasons why his works were so popular during his lifetime. Since his death in 1974, the value of his works has risen steadily. They are highly prized by contemporary art lovers.
