Édouard Vuillard (1868-1940) was a post-impressionist painter and active member of the French artistic movement known as the "Nabis". He was a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, and frequented Ker-Xavier Roussel and Maurice Denis, among others. 

The term "Nabis" comes from the Hebrew for "prophets", and refers to a group of young artists who sought to create a new art by rejecting academic conventions and exploring new forms of artistic expression, particularly through the use of bright colors, decorative motifs and bold compositions.

Vuillard was also known for his talents in interior design and applied arts. He created works for domestic spaces, theaters and boutiques. His style is characterized by intricate patterns and textural interplay, creating warm, aesthetically rich atmospheres.
