Ary Bitter is a French sculptor who works mainly in bronze. His sculptures are characterized by animal subjects, with a particular focus on elephants. He has produced a few drawings but is best known and sought after for his sculptures.
Ary Bitter's career
Ary Bitter (1883 - 1973) was a French animal sculptor.
Born in Marseille, he trained in sculpture with Jules Coutan.
Early in 1921, he exhibited a number of works at the Salon des artistes français, where he won a silver medal.
The Fonds National d'Art Contemporain (FNAC) took an interest in his work from 1939 onwards, commissioning bronzes from him to adorn a monumental fountain.
He also created sculptures that today decorate Marseille's Saint Charles train station.

Ary Bitter was a well-known and sought-after artist during his lifetime, selling works at high enough prices to make a living from the various commissions he received. Today, his quotation is stable on the auction market.
