Michelangelo Pistoletto is an Italian artist born in Biella in 1933.

From 1947, he worked with his father in his painting restoration workshop, while studying at Armando Testa's school of advertising graphics.

From 1960, he produced various self-portraits against a background of metallic monochrome. He explored the techniques of collage and then photorealistic printing.

He exhibited in the United States and then at the Sao Paolo Biennale, where his work was much appreciated. Later, he painted on mirrors and produced sculptures in the late 70s. 

The artist's imprint on his time

Today considered an icon of l'arte povera and a pioneer of Italian contemporary art, Pistoletto leaves a considerable mark on the history of contemporary art and furniture. He is the author of a colossal production, which collectors nevertheless vie for at auction.
