The artist's style and technique
A landscape painter, Makowski mainly depicted rural spaces or still lifes. He produced both postimpressionist and cubist works, crossing styles during his career.
Makowski, little-known Polish painter
Tadeusz or Tadé Makowski (1882 - 1932) was born in Poland.
A graduate of the Jagiellonian University and then the Krakow School of Fine Arts, he learned painting from several Polish painters, including Jozef Mehoffer.
Like many Eastern European painters of his time, he moved to Paris in 1908, where he studied the work of Pierre Puvis de Chavanne. Two years after his arrival, he met Henri le Fauconnier, who introduced him to the cubist painters of Montparnasse. Thanks to them, he took part in the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in 1913. Makowski spent some time in Finistère, producing a number of marine paintings during the Great War. After this episode, he divided his life between Paris and the Netherlands, where he drew inspiration from early Flemish paintings. He gained recognition in Paris, where he was exhibited several times in galleries, notably by Berthe Weil.

Tadeusz Makowski is not a well-known artist on the market; he produced very diverse works over the course of his career, belonging to different pictorial currents. Exhibited mainly in France, his paintings are highly regarded on the art market and are sought after by some collectors.
