Boris Riabouschinsky, Russian animal painter
Boris Riabouschinsky, known as Riab, (1898-1975) was a Russian painter who worked mainly on animal subjects.
Having come from a wealthy background, he received an artistic education from childhood. He doesn't seem to have taken any painting or drawing courses in Russia, but may have done so in France, where he emigrated because of the Russian Revolution, like many of his fellow artists.
He frequented artists of the Paris School, who would exert a certain influence on his work, but he concentrated on his own on the depiction of animals - particularly dogs, and especially hunting dogs.
Boris Riabouschinsky's imprint on his time
Boris Riabouschinsky did not make a lasting mark on his time; he was known to some collectors, but his clientele remained fairly closed during his lifetime. Today, his works are still sought after by a few collectors.
