Artist's style and technique
Albert Cheuret is a versatile artist who has produced works of furniture, decoration and sculpture oscillating between a tendency towards geometric forms and elements borrowed from Art Deco. The majority of his production focuses on lighting fixtures.
Albert Cheuret, sought-after 20th-century sculptor
Albert Cheuret (1884-1966) was a 20th-century French sculptor and decorator.
Born in Paris, he was trained in sculpture by Georges Lemaire and Jacques Perrin. He soon set up his own design studio and won first prize in the Sculpture Ornementale competition, which brought him a large number of commissions. Like Barye, he placed great importance on animals in his work, particularly birds, whose iconography he multiplied in his decorations and ornamental sculptures. After the discovery of Tutankhamen's sarcophagus, he gradually added orientalizing elements to his work. He was exhibited many times in Paris, and his work evolved into a hybrid mix of currents, borrowing some elements from Art Deco.
The sculptor's imprint on his period
Albert Cheuret is one of those artists who don't make a huge mark on their era. Unknown to the general public, his works today have a very high price and value on the auction market.
