The artist's style and technique
An outstanding decorator, Jacques Biny creates his own style. His furniture is characterized by straight lines, light colors and total purity. Above all, he produces sconces.
He is particularly well known for his uncluttered, minimalist lighting fixtures.
The life of Jacques Biny
Jacques Biny (1913-1976), was a French lighting designer and publisher.
He studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he became particularly interested in interior architecture. He founded Luminalite, his own lighting company, in 1953.
His aim was to produce lighting fixtures - many of them sconces - that were sleek, functional and close to the aesthetics of minimalism. Biny collaborated with Michel Buffet and Jean Boris Lacroix.
His creations are very characteristic of the desgin in vogue in the 50s and 60s, which explains his growing success during this period.
Jacques Biny's imprint on his period
Jacques Biny is not a well-known 20th-century designer in France, yet he is highly regarded by collectors of design and contemporary furniture for the sobriety and elegance of his lighting.
Today, his stock is rising on the auction market, as furniture enthusiasts increasingly seek out this style and period, and use this privileged route to procure furniture that is no longer marketed by a publisher.
His signature
Jacques Biny's works are not signed. To be sure of the originality of your property, it is largely preferable to have it appraised.
