The artist's style and technique
Schneider's output is highly varied, and goes beyond the lyrical abstraction for which he is famous.
Identified as lyrical abstraction, Schneider's works are characterized by a bold use of color, dynamic gestures, great research into the representation of light and space, and the presence of spiritual references. In this way, the artist's work reflects a deep sensitivity and a quest for personal artistic expression.
The life of Gérard Schneider
Gérard Schneider (1896 - 1986) was a Swiss abstract painter.
From 1916, he studied with Paul Renouard at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, then at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Through his painting, he explores expressionist and realist currents, eventually adopting geometric abstraction, or informal abstraction. He worked with Pierre Soulages and Hans Hartung, among others, and exhibited his work at the Galerie Louis Carré from the 1950s onwards. He then signed an exclusive contract with dealer Samuel Kootz.
He sought to express drama and movement through his works.
The artist died in Paris at the age of 90.
