Rating and value of the artist
A marine painter, André Dauchez has a rather high rating on the French and American art markets. Described as lively and joyful, his most prized works are his depictions of landscapes, particularly those of Brittany. Thus, a work signed by Dauchez can fetch thousands of euros, as evidenced by his 1906 painting, Le ramassage du varech, sold for €15,000 in 2019, while it was estimated at between €3,000 and €5,000, suggesting strong upside potential for the artist's works.

The works and style of André Dauchez
André Dauchez produces marine paintings - in the technical vein of Luc-Olivier Merson, who trained him. His mediums include printmaking, drawing and oil on canvas. He is not attached to any particular movement, and is one of the painters who reject neo-impressionism.
The life of André Dauchez
André Dauchez (1870-1948) was a French marine painter.
Born in Paris, he trained as a painter in Luc-Olivier Merson's studio. He became secretary of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts then a member of the committee, replacing Jean-Louis Forain.
He has known Brittany since childhood, hence his interest in the region's landscapes and their depiction in his canvases. He worked there in the house he owned with Lucien Simon.
He then had a house-studio built in Loctudy.
Bolstered by his knowledge of navigation, the painter depicted Breton landscapes and its boats as faithfully as possible.
He was appointed official painter of the Navy in 1922.
Dauchez exhibited his marine paintings, in which the human figure is often absent, on several occasions in France.
André Dauchez's imprint on his period
André Dauchez is not a painter widely known to the general public. He is, however, sought after by certain private collectors, who play the greatest role in the preservation of his work.
His quotation, moreover, has strong upside potential.
