Characteristics of Petrus wine

Petrus wine is very special, which is why it's so highly prized. It is a red wine, fruity with certain floral notes. Its density is recognized as one of the best in the world.

The vineyard is located in Pomerol, in the Bordeaux region, west of Saint Émilion. The vineyard's soils have a very high concentration of iron, which gives the wine its very particular taste ; thanks to the gravel and blue clay, which naturally hydrates the soils.

The history of the Petrus vineyard

The vineyard initially belonged to the Arnaud family. Marie-Louise Loubat bought part of it in 1925 and managed production. In 1945, she acquired the part of the vineyard that did not belong to her. Jean-Pierre Moueix joined her in 1947. A wine merchant, he helped her to promote the vineyard internationally.

Marie-Louise Loubat succeeded in presenting her wine at the wedding banquet of Queen Elizabeth II. For his part, Moueix introduced it to the Kennedy family, who praised the merits of Petrus.

The estate now belongs to Moueix's descendants.

Since 2010, the grape varieties have been 100% Merlot.

The origin of the name comes from the locality, long since named Saint Pierre. Literally translated Petrus in Latin, the bottle labels pay homage to Saint Peter by representing the keys to Paradise, held by the saint.

Petrus wine enjoyed great success during the 20th century, and today it is still prized by wine collectors and known by wine lovers. Renowned wine critic Robert Parker has awarded nine outstanding vintages a score of 100/100.
