Yüksel Arslan's life
Yüksel Arslan is a Turkish artist born in Eyüp, Turkey.
He attended the German High School in Istambul and studied art history at the University of Istambul. There, he studied the works of Paul Klee, Jean Dubuffet and André Breton. As early as 1950, he began his own production of drawings and paintings.
André Breton invited him to take part in the 1959 Exposition Internationale du Surréalisme, but he was not one of the exhibitors and moved to Paris in 1961. He played with words and syllables to title his works, and adapted cave paintings to paper. He also used mixtures of earth and natural organic elements to create his canvases and drawings. He exhibited widely in France and Turkey, with a retrospective devoted to him in Istambul, with others to follow until the Centre Pompidou retrospective.
