The artist's style and technique

Although he belongs to the Post-Impressionist movement, Montézin's style is a continuation of Monet's. He also applies himself to enlivening and magnifying colors and lighting effects, to restore the vigorous energy of this resplendent nature. Montezin lends his landscape paintings a certain speed and vitality through an expeditious brushwork and assertive serif.

The life of Pierre Eugène Montézin

Pierre Eugène Montézin was born into a wealthy family. He lived in a rural setting, which enabled him to observe nature and immerse himself in the landscapes that would later form the core of his work. From elementary school onwards, he worked as a decorator in a house and later as an ornamentalist on fleur-de-lys panels. He then took up oil painting, eventually abandoning decoration in favor of landscape painting. However, despite his persistence and unbridled output, the canvases he regularly sent to the Salon des artistes français were rejected. At the beginning of the 20th century, he was finally accepted.

Montézin's imprint on his era

Strengthened by his hard work over more than thirty years, Montézin was finally rewarded by his induction as president of the jury of the Salon des artistes français. In 1936, he exhibited at the Galerie du Journal and then at the famous Galerie Durand Ruel, which considerably boosted his reputation. His ultimate consecration came in 1941, when he inherited Édouard Vuillard's chair at the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
