The story of a porcelain artist

Jacob Petit (1796-1868) also known as Jacob Mardochée, was a renowned 19th-century French porcelain artist, whose career began as a porcelain painter. After gaining a solid reputation in the field, he founded his own porcelain factory in Fontainebleau around 1830. His artistic style, influenced by Rococo, is characterized by whimsical shapes, vibrant colors and elaborate decoration. Over the course of his career, he created a wide variety of pieces, including vases, statuettes, clocks and toiletries. Despite some criticism of the exuberance of his work, Jacob Petit was a great success with the 19th-century bourgeoisie, in search of refinement and luxury. Today, his artistic contribution and craftsmanship are recognized and appreciated by collectors and art lovers on the market.
